It proves that all that Jesus said and all the miracles he did, did not make much difference spiritually, of course they were disciples which Jesus called to follow Him: ‘Follow me and I will make you fishers of men.’ They were in a process of growth but without true understanding of all that Jesus taught, and even though Jesus told them that this would happen to Him and that he would rise again on the third day, it did not register. There is so much that I could say about what is quoted above, but I must proceed to show that these men were so, until Jesus, after He rose from the dead opened their understanding, Luke quotes what Jesus said and did in one of His appearances to the disciples. ‘He said to them, This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the prophets and the Psalms. Then He opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. He told them: This is what is written. The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day.’ (Luke 24: 44-46) This is true of all Christians young in the faith, which more mature Christians do not often understand and do even discourage them forgetting they were so! There is a growth in the new life and some grow quicker than other!
Until God, the Holy Spirit does this miracle, no man is capable to understand what is written in the Bible however wise and educated, he may be! This is plain to see, for scientists, not all but most! are the greatest unbelievers. and are unable to grasp what the Bible is all about! And go out of their way to substitute the truth with their learning and display it before people as the truth. The whole subject on evolution is still only a theory, it cannot be proved and yet men believe it at the cost of the truth which is Christ, and remain blind! Men, by nature, are dead and most of the world has submitted to what blind men have said concerning God and the truth of the Gospel, they are blind being led by the blind and together they will fall into the pit of hell. But, Praise the Lord, many will see Jesus, the light of the world!
We must add to this what I quoted from the Gospel of John: ‘Again, Jesus said: Peace be with you! As the father has sent me, I am sending you.’ And with that he breathed on them and said: ‘Receive the Holy Spirit.’ (John 20: 21-22) Whatever happened then, as the risen Christ breathed on them happened when Jesus was still on earth, could have been two or three weeks before the Day of Pentecost! It is on that day that the Holy Spirit came down and filled a hundred and twenty disciples. Before that outpouring, they met Jesus on the mount of Olives, heard His last word before they saw Him ascend to heaven and disappear in a cloud.
In obedience to the Lord’s command, they were gathered together, and waited in Jerusalem, not knowing really when the promised Holy Spirit would come and how? When finally, after ten days, the Holy Spirit did come down and filled them, a staggering change happened! For it is written: ‘When the day of Pentecost came, they were altogether in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a mighty wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest upon each of them...’ To the Jewish Christians that day of Pentecost became a very important day, for it was on that day, on Sunday, fifty days after the Passover, the first day of the week in the Jewish calendar.
The Christians remember that ten days after Christ’s ascension was a time of silence and of waiting during which the disciples gathered behind closed doors for fear of the Jews, as I have mentioned previously, but on the day of the feast they sat together in one place to commemorate it, unaware that it was going to be the day of an immense change for their lives and their whole future! It is a very important day, remembered by Christians to this very day! Whitson is still a special day commemorated by Christians in the world!
‘All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit (not the apostles only, but one hundred and twenty of them, that were still left waiting as Jesus commanded: … and they began to speak in tongues as the Spirit enabled them. Now there were staying in Jerusalem God fearing Jews, from every nation under heaven. When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard them speaking in his own language. Utterly amazed, they asked: Are not all these men who are speaking Galileans? Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language?... We hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongue! Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another. What does all this mean?’ Pentecost since then, has more sense than the one that the Jews still commemorate, for God poured out The Holy Spirit on another people, for on that day was born the Church of Jesus Christ, the old order has passed away. The source of their speech and the praises of these Spirit filled believers, was under the direction of another intellect, another person, the Holy Spirit. The third person of the Holy Trinity, therefore speaking in tongues is a great miracle.

My name is Edouard Jankowski and In September 1953 I landed on British soil. I was then nineteen years of age, and my destination was the I.B.T.I. (International Bible Training Institute) situated in Burgess-Hill, West Sussex. I did not realise when I arrived at the College, how my life was about to change for the better.
