Now we know who came down from on high on our Lord Jesus when he had been baptised in water by John the Baptist! To remind you: ‘As soon as Jesus was baptised, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he (John the Baptist) saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lightning on Him.’ This filling (baptism) with the Holy Spirit that came on Him as a dove, and this coming down of the Holy Spirit, according to what Peter said to Cornelius, the Roman centurion, was the Lord’s anointing. This is why the Holy Spirit impressed Luke to write to his friend Theophilus and say that the disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ were going to be filled with the Holy Spirit just as was Jesus our Lord. Luke clearly states, under divine anointing that: ‘After His suffering, He showed Himself to these men and gave many convincing proofs that He was alive (verse 3) … He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God. On one occasion, while he was eating with them, He gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptised with/in water but in few days, you will be baptised with the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 1: 3-6)

Thus, if we take all these holy commands that Jesus gave to His disciples, it is obvious that they could not start preaching the Gospel until they received also their anointing, just as He had to wait for years, until it was the right time set by His Father for HIM! (Jesus His Son) to be filled with the Holy-Spirit, after which He started His public ministry! Jesus Himself testifies, to His anointing, when he returned for a short time to Nazareth, in the synagogue that He attended during many years, He took the scroll that was handed to Him and read: ‘The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because He has anointed me to preach the Gospel (the good news) to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom to the prisoners (of the devil) and recovery of sight to the blind, (those the devil has blinded) to release the oppressed, (slaves to Satan) to proclaim the years of the Lord’s favour! It is clear that to do all these things as He did and then commanded His disciple to do, were necessary to attack the kingdom of darkness, all the servants of the Lord need the power and the authority given by this anointing! We are never wrong to repeat these words, for we are so prone to forget that this is God talking!

So, we must conclude and say: ‘‘how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those that bring good news.”, (Romans 10: 15) to this we must add ‘and how can they be sent without being clothed with power from on high’? as mentioned by Luke in chapter 24 verse 44! This brings us to a very important point of Christian doctrine, for the preaching of the Gospel that Jesus, the son of God, began after His infilling with the Holy Spirit, (which would not have happened unless he was baptised in water!) could not have continued unless these eleven disciples were anointed, as He was, to preach the Gospel with the power and authority of the Holy-Spirit. But on the Day of Pentecost there were one hundred and twenty of them filled ate the same time! I shall enlarge on that later. For the time being, think about it and meditate, for there is a lot that many have missed profound truths.

This is why the Holy Spirit inspired Luke to record the last words that Jesus spoke to His disciples before He left them, therefore, I conclude that it was a command that they could not ignore! The importance of it is such that we cannot ignore it neither!

Therefore, these were very important words that ended the orders of our Master who left His disciples with a most unique mission: ‘It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy-Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.’ (Acts 1: 7-8) If I were able to speak to the Lord, there are many questions I would put to Him, because we are living eventful days, and there are many things I would like to know; but the Lord’s teachings must also be enough for me, and I must live and trust our Heavenly Father, for He knows exactly what He is doing. All I know is, that many wonderful things are shortly going to happen! If there is something we need to know, then somehow, if we need it, He will let us know His will for the days we are living in!  ‘Even so, come Lord Jesus’!
