This is the extent of what Christ had to suffer in His body on the Cross, for God to break the hold that Satan and death have over all men, therefore preaching the Gospel is a necessity and it is, with the unction of the Holy Spirit, that preachers are filled with the power of God, and given the right to proclaim Jesus Christ as Saviour, and by the preaching of the Gospel the Holy Spirit convicts a man of sin and creates in his heart the faith that saves him and makes of Him a new creature. By the new birth the believer becomes a child of God and joins the family of the redeemed! The Gospel, because it is the Word of God, has a creative power and those who ear it, are created anew to a new life by faith in Jesus Christ, as it is written: ‘For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in, or through, Christ Jesus our LORD. (Romans 6: 23).

So, the first confession that leads to salvation is this declaration of faith: ‘I believe that Jesus Christ is Lord.’ ‘If you confess with your mouth, ‘JESUS IS LORD’, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.’ Jesus is not attached to a cross as depicted by the Roman Catholics, nor has, a wooden cross any protective power. I have seen it on the walls of many homes, and they would hardly want to take it off for fear of sinning. The only safety one can enjoy on earth and great joy in heaven forever! is to have Jesus Christ in the heart and live for Him as long as God gives him life. As it is written: ‘Anyone who trusts in Him, will not be put to shame (he will never regret it) For there is no difference between Jew or Gentile – the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on Him. For, everyone who calls on the name of the Lord (Jehovah) will be saved!’ (Romans 10: 11-13) Not after the great judgement, but right now, through Christ’s merits, totally by grace, and to be saved from the curse of sin one must believe, and commit his life to the Lord Jesus Christ.

Thus, the next statement from Romans 10, comes forcibly to light with some other questions: ‘How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in one of whom they have not heard? (Romans 10: 14a) This verse describes exactly the hopeless situation in which all men find themselves, Jews and Gentiles, for, to come out from this death and curse of sin, they have to hear the Gospel and they will not hear it until they hear a preacher of the Gospel, unless they hear that Jesus, who died is ALIVE, they will never change, for their doom is written! It puts us squarely before the necessity of a personal confession, salvation is not handed down from Christian parents on their children, nor can anyone say that he is a Christian because he or she was born is a, so called, Christian country, for countries cannot be Christian! Neither do babies become Christians when they are sprinkled with few drops of water! So, believe right now and be saved. End the uncertainty and make a sincere commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ.

Hence, to become a Christian, one must be of age to hear the Gospel, which is the Good News about who Jesus is and what He alone can save all that come to Him, however religious or moral he may be; or even completely ungodly! So, to a humanity divided into so many Christian or pagan confessions, each proclaiming that their kind of piety, or religion saves them from this curse we all are under, God says, ‘For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God’. (Romans 3: 23) So, if one does not accept Christ as saviour, one remains under the curse! So, salvation cannot be earned, by the grace of God it is a free gift that must be received. ‘For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in/or through the Lord Jesus Christ!’ (Romans 6: 23) Thus, to a lost world dead in sin, the Gospel alone proclaims deliverance from sin, death and the power of Satan, by a commitment to Jesus Christ and a confession that He is Lord (Jehovah)! The vilest offender, who truly believes, that moment from Jesus a pardon receives! He alone can save people from a living death and the curse under which is the whole of mankind! It is by a very personal act of faith which is created in the heart by the Holy Spirit, this happens when Christ is proclaimed for, He is what He said He is: ‘the way, the truth, and the Life, and no man comes to the Father (God) but by me!’ (John 14: 6-7) So, another question follows the previous one: ‘And how can they hear (the truth – the Gospel) without someone preaching to them? (Romans 10: 14b).
