Since the fall of Adam, followed by Enoch’s rapture, centuries passed without a word from God, this complete silence is broken as God came down to scrutinize the actual moral and spiritual state of man, as stated, (Genesis 6) and He actually talked with Noah and revealed to him what he was about to do. To escape from the flood with his family, he told Him to build an ark and gave that generation, one hundred twenty years to repent from their sins and forsake their evil ways. During those years, Noah built the ark as directed and taught by the Lord, for He gave him the blueprint and the know-how to build this massive boat, with the help of his sons! it had neither engine nor rudder, it was built to float and it went wherever God wanted it, and it rested finally where God wanted it to rest, up a great mountain, named Ararat!

Eventually, when the hundred and twenty years elapsed and the ark was completed, God did what he said He would, it is awful to see that not one soul repented of its evil ways, then came the flood as it is written. ‘Every living thing that moved on the earth perished – birds, livestock, wild animals, all the creatures that swarm over the earth, and all mankind. Everything on dry land that had breath and life in its nostrils died. Every living thing on the face of the earth was wiped out! The whole story is told in Genesis chapters 6 to 9. Poor Noah, he would not fare well with men today, he could not be accepted as a minister of a church in my movement, (Assemblies of God), nor any other I suppose, for he did not win one soul to join him and his family in the ark. Now, Jesus bore witness to that fact and said that in the last days humanity would be just as corrupt and evil as it was in the days of Noah. (Matthew 26: 40) The times of the end will prove, that God will cleanse His creation of all traces of evil, for it is in His plan!

When Noah came out from the ark with his wife his three sons, Shem, Ham and Japhet and their wives, it is written that he: ‘Built an altar to the Lord and, taking some of all the clean animals and clean birds, he sacrificed burnt offerings on it. The Lord smelled the pleasing aroma and said in His heart: Never again will I curse the ground because of man, even though the inclination of his heart is evil from childhood’. It was a thanksgiving offering to God, an act of worship. (Genesis 8: 20-21)

There were no directions for it, sacrifices, like Abraham sacrificed later, were sacrificed from the heart, they were sacrifices of thanksgiving and of worship. Following this God made a covenant with Noah, as it is written: ‘Then God said to Noah and to his sons with him: I now establish my covenantwith you and with your descendants after you and with every living creature that was with you – the birds, the livestock and all the wild animals, all those that came out from the ark – every living creature on earth. And God said. This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come. I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the sky. I will remember my covenant between me and you and all the living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life…So God said to Noah: This is the sign (the rainbow) of the covenant I have established between me and all life on earth. As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summand winter, day and night shall never cease.’ (Genesis 9: 8-17) This covenant is remembered every time the rainbow decorates an angry sky, since God covenanted Himself with humanity of which Noah is the patriarch, he remains true to it. Every season, and what it brings, long days, short days; dry days wet days; warm days and cold days, whatever days they all contribute to His faithfulness, men saw their fields and they bring in the harvest, without ever knowing that the fruits of their labours, are testimonies to God’s faithfulness, only very few know it, and thank Him for it! Do you?
