To follow from the previous ‘Link’ from that awful drama, Sin, which is an awful inner power, has taken complete control of mankind and has totally corrupted it, so much so that God regretted to have created man and the whole world perished in a flood, but one man, Noah, found grace in the eyes of the Lord, him God saved, with his family, only eight were saved. It appears that the conscience did not speak anymore, men became ‘blasé’ as it is said. The apostle Paul writing to a young pastor, Timothy, mentioning such men says: ‘Whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.’ (1 Timothy 4:2) Therefore, what happens to men in sin, is that the conscience is not as keen, or sharp as it should be, or else non-existent. They have crossed the line and their conscience is burned up! The Bible shows how conscience works; in his epistle to the Christians in Rome, the apostle Paul says the following: ‘When the gentiles, who do not have the law, ‘the Ten Commandments’ do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the (written) law. Since they show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts now accusing, now even defending them, this will take place on the day when God will judge men’s secrets through Jesus Christ, as my gospel declares.’ (Romans 2:14-16) It appears that all the life of man is recorded, on judgement day the tape will be switched on, and everything will be heard openly! Then, shall be judged, not only people that have broken the written Commandments, but those also that have not obeyed the law written in their hearts!

It means, therefore, that Adam had a conscience and the law of God was written in Adam’s heart and became active as soon as he partook of the forbidden fruit; he and Eve felt an immense change in them, fear had taken hold of them and they run to hide. Fear is a terrible thing; Satan rules the world through fear, evils rulers, subject men through fear. Terror drives men into slavery to their masters, they will do whatever they are told, to survive another day. Conscience is clearly at work in men, for example, when men commit a robbery; once they have done the evil deed, they run from the place as rabbits, to hide in their hole, and yet nobody chases them! Cain also knew he was doing wrong, yet he killed Abel, his brother in secret, and made sure nobody saw him, but God saw it and when ‘He asked him: Where is your brother? ‘I don’t know, he replied. Am I my brother’s keeper’? (Genesis 4: 9) He did not get away with it, he had to acknowledge and pay for what his evil act. So, to conclude I say that, while the Israelites disobeyed God’s Law, given through Moses, the gentiles, the non-Jews, also disobeying God’s law written on the tables of their hearts, therefore it is written: ‘For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God’ (Romans 3:23) 

If God does not hide his hate of sin, he has also proved to the world how far He is willing to go to eradicate it, when He has to. He has proved it in the days of the flood. The whole character of fallen mankind comes to the fore in that awful apostasy, godlessness is a slippery path to hell. When men are faced with the fact that the flood did happen, in their unbelief they say all sort of things about it, mainly that the flood is a myth and that it never happened. But it did happen, just as it is written, immorality and violence had filled the earth, just as it does today. Out of all that mass of corruption, for mankind was corrupted to the core, one man stood up righteous, his name was Noah, whom I mentioned previously. Whilst the Bible does not say much about Cain, apart from few verses in Genesis 4:1-24, his descendants too multiplied just as the Sons of Seth. It shows that eventually there was a mixing of both entities. It is a fact of history that sin polluted all mankind, so much so that God had to intervene and destroy the lot. But through Noah, a descendant of Seth, not Cain, God continued his plan, and with that family, replenished the earth.
