“Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face the judgement, so CHRIST was sacrificed once to take away the sins of the people; and HE will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for HIM. (Hebrews 9:27-28)

On Christmas Day 1964 I received a present from my brother-in-law and his wife, a Book of ‘Daily Readings’ called ‘The Cheque Book of the Bank of Faith’ written by the renowned Charles H. Spurgeon, remembered as ‘The Prince of Preachers’. I have used it ever since, needless to say that it gave me pleasure and great blessings every day. I mention it because the verse he chose for Christmas Day has nothing to do with what one expects at Christmas! He chose to write about the Return of Christ, I have never done it, but I suddenly thought that it would do me good to mention it and draw the attention of Christians that may turn to this website and read about this great event which is the next BIG one which will happen shortly.

The verses I have chosen as an introduction mention the purpose for Christ’s first coming which changed the destiny of millions of people for the better, and then gave a hope for eternity. The way the Christmas story is portrayed yearly by Christians all over the world is generally mutilated and does not, ever or hardly ever, detail the great purposes of Christ’s birth. The Bible says: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever (Jew or gentile) believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16) God sent one Saviour for the whole world, but most of the world will not even give Jesus Christ the thought on what is supposed to be His day of birth, a day on which God gave His greatest gift to mankind, His Son, and through faith in Him, ETERNAL LIFE. But commercialised as the story is nowadays, it does not even tally with what God did for a world doomed to disappear, for. “Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.” (1 Corinthians 15:3)

The purpose of His second coming as mentioned in our text, is the great hope of every true Christian, he lives for it, rejoices over it and prepares for it. There was a time when such Christians mentioned the second coming of Christ, continually, today even true Christians hardly ever mention it, but a time is coming soon when things will change drastically, for the world that men have built without God and against Him will crumble, true Christians will then wake up to reality, the Holy Spirit will once again put Jesus Christ in the centre of things, the place He should have never lost, especially among ‘Evangelical Christians’. But why should you wait till then?

Let this time of the year wake you up to the real purpose for which Jesus Christ came amongst men, to save men and then take them all to His home above. Read this verse again and again: “This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen Him go into heaven!” (Acts 1:11) Jesus is coming back very soon! ‘For those that are waiting for Him’, make sure you are ready for HIM! True Christian doctrine leads to a spiritual revolution. From its very beginning Christ’ divided the whole Jewish religious system, so much so that most of the of the clergy tried to discredit Jesus, and finally had Him crucified. But God rose Him from the dead and Christ is alive today!
