One can feel how much Peter, may be more than the others, needed this healing touch, for I feel he still felt a deep disappointment! But however he felt, Jesus had in mind to reinstate Him to his special apostleship, for Jesus prepared for Him a most important role in the birth of the Church, which took place a few weeks later! This happened as part of the story, it appears that this could have been, eventually, the longest time, of the forty days, that Jesus spent with His disciples? But He took all the time that was needed to successfully finish His mission! What a Saviour, what a man, how much I/we need Him, I can’t express it!

Yet, Jesus may have been in Galilee before them, who knows? He came to meet Peter, for He knew his physical and mental condition, and he planned to bring Him up again to normality! He needed him for a special ministry, and He knew how and what to do. I have a feeling that He purposely took a while to reveal his presence on the shore of Galilee, and watched them trying to catch some fish, knowing exactly how it would end, and what He came to do. Now this is a great lesson for all Christians, to see that Jesus knows how to deal with us personally, and prepare us for service whatever it is He wants us to do and to be! While they were using all the craft they knew so well, unbeknown to them, Jesus somehow caught or bought some already Himself? and was busy preparing them their breakfast! The Lord in His glorified body did not have to walk as He had to before, He was raised from the dead, and was not bound to a human body, as afore!

When Jesus said to Mary to go and tell His disciples to meet Him in Galilee, the whole point of it was already decided, it is clear that Jesus, right from the start followed a program which was decided upon before He came to earth, and we shall discover how His time on earth will end, but before his ascension He had to prepare His team for the handover! As the disciples, still in the boat, were nearing the beach, having failed to catch some fish, they saw a man standing on the shore, but they did not know that it was the Lord. What followed is the most wonderful story, for it is written: ‘Early in the morning, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not realise that it was Jesus. He called out to them: Friends, haven’t you any fish? (they must have thought that he waited to buy some fish from them!) No, they answered. He said: Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some. When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.’ What they felt we do not know but it took John to break the silence and say: ‘It is the Lord!’

It was a quiet morning in early spring, pleasant and cool. As soon as Peter heard that it was Jesus, he put back on the outer garment which he took off, and jumped in the water, wanting to get to Jesus as soon as he could, impulsive as ever! That’s Peter! But not one of them expected that Jesus could be there, now risen from the dead and glorified, to stoop down to prepare to them their breakfast, and yet, there it was, and they were seven hungry, disappointed men, and Jesus knew exactly how to change the unexpected situation, for he had to restore them, especially Peter before He could do what he came to do.

This story is most touching and I often have spent time musing over it, because this is Jesus, whom they called Master, Rabbouni, Teacher, the Lord (Jehovah) and Christ the anointed one, the Messiah. God; risen from the dead, glorified, no other person in the world in a such a high position, would dream of stooping down and prepare, with such loving details a splendid breakfast, for men, that humanly speaking, did not deserve it! But we are not dealing with men, imperfect in every way, proud and selfish, but this is Jesus, our Master, our Saviour, who came from heaven, where real love is dominant in every relationship! This is why, it must be thus between Christians, between them, and with the Lord, and God, our heavenly Father! Love, trust, faith, faithfulness! After all I have experienced, I am still learning how deep is the love of God, unchanging!
