Since Jesus came and through all the history of Christianity, there never were as many controversies about a personage, as there are about Jesus Christ the Son of the Living God. The Christians have, throughout time, known grievous, heinous tribulations; millions have been martyred in the Arenas of Rome, and through all the roman empire, add to that, the thousands, if not millions, that gave their lives in Europe during the Reformation, organised by the Roman Catholic Church; for what reason? Their only crime was their new found faith in the Son of God. Things have changed somewhat, yet in some countries it is still dangerous to own up that one is a Cristian, for Satan hates Jesus Christ and those that are His!

Yet, during all those centuries, right from the time that Christ started His public ministry at the age of thirty, men have never let up their criticism concerning Him, even in this sophisticated, apparently enlightened age, from all quarters, especially from the most educated ones, men have freely expressed what they think about Jesus-Christ, the Son of God, the founder and defender of the Christian faith. There are other founders of various religions in the world, as there were in the days of the Lord Jesus, they have died their death and are no more, Jesus alone rose from the dead and remains the most interesting and popular personage, God incarnate, known to this very day, as Jesus Christ, the Son of God. By the power of the Holy Spirit, people are drawn to Him and find in Him someone that fills the emptiness of their soul, for He still is unique and answers the need of the mind and the soul of troubled people, people that have found through Him peace concerning the now and the hereafter! It is not some wild dream but very much the power of a new life right now, assuring every believer of life everlasting in the hereafter!

It is strange that in this modern age, the majority of people of the world still raise their eye brows, at the many claims Jesus made about Himself, claims, that are still true to this very day, preached, with great conviction by his disciples, for they know Him to be who He is! He is their Saviour, their Master and their God. In our days, people are still martyred for believing in Jesus-Christ as their Saviour and Lord, as they have been throughout history, a lot of them by their very family! The apostle John, as a very young man had a burning love for Jesus and as an old man wrote this concerning Him: ‘In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God … The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the father, full of glory and truth.’ (John 1:1 & 14) Whatever evil men will do, they will never be able to rub out those words, nor change history, for they are embodied in Jesus-Christ, who in heaven, is sitting at the right hand of God, having defeated all His enemies forever!

When, on the eve of His death, Jesus was still in the Upper Room with His disciples, it is written, that before they left to go into the Garden of Gethsemane: ‘Jesus looked towards heaven and prayed: ‘Father the time has come, (to go to the cross) glorify your Son, that your son may glorify you. For you granted Him authority over all the people that He might give eternal life to all those you have given Him. Now this is eternal life that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do. And, now Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.” (John 17:1-5) Jesus came into the world for an important mission, and His last words were: “It is finished”. With that, He bowed His head and gave up his spirit. (John 19:30) The return to all that he left to come down to earth and live thirty-three eventful years, was through death and has inherited a name that is above every name. Concerning Him, the apostle Paul wrote one of his great master piece. The woman that came to embalm His body, on the morning of the Sunday following the Feast of the Passover, found the huge stone was rolled from the grave where they left Him, but it was empty, and an angel that said: ‘He is not here for He is risen’.

‘Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death – even death on a cross! THEREFORE, God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and very tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father!’ (Philippians 2.6-11) As God, and King eternal, Jesus shall reign over every nation on earth until God’s appointed time.
