The apostle Paul writing about it, puts it well in few words: ‘For the love of Christ compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And He died for all (Jews and Gentiles) that those that live (the New Life) should not live for themselves (their own ends) but for Him who died for them and was raised again. (2 Corinthians 5: 14-15) Thank the Lord He does forgive sins, for John the Baptist said: ‘Behold the lamb of God, which takes away the sin off the world!’ And he goes on forgiving sins, for every disobedience is sin. But firstly, it is a fact that sin is a power that is in-bread, present in every man from birth. A sinner is not a sinner when he has committed a sin, he is a sinner by/from birth, and that inherited power, causes him to sin, it is in his nature, in his genes!

I was once badly impressed; it happened when I was going through a shopping centre. Children were happily playing, in a play area, when, for no rhyme or reason, a little girl stood up and walked few steps towards another child playing happily in another group, and smacked it with all its might, and to crown it all, she run away crying! I was sad to witness that, and I have never forgotten it! Inbred sin! Man can do some horrible and disgusting things, to himself firstly, and then to others! We all have this ‘sin’ power from birth, and it manifests itself by various sins! For instance, who in the world knows that ‘Not loving God’ is breaking the first commandment, and yet it is the greatest sin, a sin that leads to all other sins, because if all loved God, as they should, all others sins would not be committed, for sins are acts of disobedience to God.

Hence, because Jesus was begotten by the Holy Spirit, He did not have that ‘sin nature’! which obviously is handed down by man! For Jesus being born of a woman by the Holy Spirit, was born sinless. In Genesis, when Eve ate of the forbidden fruit nothing happened to her, for she was under Adam’s covering. So, from the start, we discover that there is a very big difference between a man and a woman. It is when Adam ate of it that the eyes of them both were opened, and fear took hold of them. It is written that: ‘By one man sin entered the world… and death came to all men,’ (Romans 5: 12) John the Baptist, having told the people that Jesus was sent by God as a lamb, spotless and sinless, to take away the sin in the world, is the root of the Gospel. But, having said that Jesus takes away the sin of the world, he also said that: ‘Jesus would baptise with the Holy Spirit’! It is clearly stated: ‘John said I baptise you with water fore repentance. But after me will come one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not fit to carry. He will baptise you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.’ (Matthew 3: 11)

So, a Christian is not sealed as one until he is filled with the Holy Spirit. I shall enlarge this statement later. I say that because Jesus is not truly Lord in a man where the Holy Spirit does not indwell! The goal for a Christians is commitment to the cause of Jesus Christ. John the Baptist said a lot more about Jesus, things also recorded in the other Gospels, but in John’s Gospel it is written that John the Baptist said: ‘This is the One I meant when I said: ‘A man who comes after me has surpassed me because He was before me. (Now it is a historical fact that John the Baptist was born at least six months or more, before Jesus was born) and yet he said that He was before Him: ‘I myself did not know Him, but the reason I came baptising in water was that He might be revealed to Israel.’ Then John gave this testimony: ‘I saw the (Holy) Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on Him. I would not have known Him, (being the Son of God) except that the one who sent me to baptise in water told me: The man on whom you see the (Holy) Spirit come down and remain is He who will baptise with the Holy Spirit. I have seen and I testify that this is the Son of God! (John 1: 30-34) God who anointed John the Baptist and gave Him this unique mission, was told in detail how He would recognise His Son, Jesus; and it happened as he said!
