In fact, the apostle John, writing to Christians that he knew closely, having been their pastor for many years, states that: ‘If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He His faithful and just and will forgive our sins and purify us (His children) from all unrighteousness.’ (1 John 1: 8-9) Only Christians can confess their sins to God through Jesus Christ, the unbeliever must repent of his, there is a very big difference between the two, true Christians have all experienced conversion and the new birth when they believed, from the heart, that the Lord Jesus Christ died for their sins! This divine truth Jesus proved it, for during forty days he appeared to His disciples, and lovingly restored them all, and never once did He mention their sins, for all forsook Him and fled, nor did He expect any confession, nor sought it.

I have discovered that preachers, and many Christians, really believe that God will forgive the worst of sins to a repenting sinner, yet they will cast away, sometimes for good, one of His children that may have fallen into sin. I have known Christians that have suffered greatly by the attitude of the Church for having fallen, a sin which they confessed sincerely, with great sorrow! It is taught in scripture, that God may discipline his sons, sometimes severely, yet He will never cast off one of His children! Many forget that although we are under grace, we still need the ministry of our High Priest, Jesus Christ! much is written about Him in the book of Hebrews, as written: ‘Every high priest is selected from among men and is appointed to represent them in matters related to God, to offer gifs and sacrifices for sins. He is able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and have gone astray, since he himself is subject to weakness. This is why he has to offer sacrifices for his own sins, as well as for the sins of the people (Hebrews 5: 1-3) For sins sticks like a leech and sups life away!

It is written about the need of men to have a high priest, as explained above, and that Aaron, Moses’s brother was appointed as such for those that sinned under the terms of the Old Covenant. The whole life of the Israelites evolved around the tabernacle, and later around the temple. Every day sacrifices for sins were offered. But, many Christians do not see the need of one under the New Covenant, but it is proved by the Scriptures that it is not so, and that as long as we are on earth we do, for we shall sin, and sins have to be atoned for, and offered by a High Priest, so, God appointed Jesus as a high priest to stand in, and represent us before God, as It is written: ‘No one takes this honour upon himself; he must be called by God, just as Aaron was. So, Christ, also did not take upon Himself the glory of becoming a high priest, But God said to Him: You are my son; today I have become your Father … It is also said in another place: You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek. Much is taught in the Scriptures about it all, but my sole purpose for now, is to establish that Christians, do need a High Priest, and that God alone could give Jesus, His Son, that honour! If we did not need Him, God would not have appointed Jesus to that office. It is a highly respected calling, and none could offer sacrifices except the high priest appointed by God, and so He appointed Aaron, and his sons after him, no one else could offer sacrifices for sins, but the Him. Thus it is written: ‘Therefore, since we have a high priest who has gone through/(into heaven) the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathise with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are – yet without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace in time of need. (Hebrews 4: 14-16) The time of need is when we have sinned and the blood of Jesus Christ, shed once and forever, purifies us from all sins.
